PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) - A rate hike of 14.3 percent was approved by the Petersburg City Council in May of this year.
The rate changes will go into effect on October 1, 2012. The City of Petersburg said that utility rates are one of the lowest in the Commonwealth.
The city cited multiple factors as to why the rates are going up, including higher fuel charges and federal and state mandates.
The money will also fund waste water treatment plant upgrades.
