HENRICO, Va. (WTVR)--Henrico Police arrested a man in connection with a deadly weekend shooting in the Dumbarton/Lakeside area.

Michael Jeter Mabry, Jr., 24, is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Donald M. Sims, Sr., age 62 [Read original story here].

Police said Mabry shot and killed Sims around 6:30 p.m. on Kenwood Avenue.

A neighbor told CBS 6 that Mabry and Sims got into an argument prior to the shooting over noise caused by Mabry and his younger brother dirt biking on nearby wooded trails.

John Chisholm said Sims loved working his yard, and often became annoyed by people riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers.

Chisholm said he was having dinner with his family Sunday evening when he noticed the argument outside.

He said Mabry and his brother left and returned a short time later in their cars.  Chisholm said the argument escalated as Sims began chasing the vehicles on foot.

After a shot was fired from one of the cars, Chisholm said he ran after both men.

“I ran as fast as I could and pulled my weapon and said ‘freeze, drop the weapon or I’m going to fire,’” Chisholm said.

While the younger brother complied, Chisholm said the eldest Mabry fled the scene, but turned himself into police a few moments later.

Chisholm said he and another neighbor tried to save Sims’ life by performing CPR.

We packed his wound immediately and started pumping and I started breathing into his mouth,” Chisholm said. “We got him back and he was back for a little bit, but then we lost him.”

Sims was declared dead at VCU Medical University.

Mabry is currently held at the Henrico County Jail on second-degree murder charges.
