SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A small plane has crashed into a neighborhood near Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County, according to an email from Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
Authorities say John B. Morton and his son, Kyle J. Morton, of Stafford County, were conducting take-offs and landings from Shannon Airport using a Cessna 150M single-engine plane.
The plane fell from the sky and hit a tree in the 11000 block of Carrie Court at 5:14 p.m. Saturday.
Geller confirmed both died at the scene, but added that no one on the ground was injured. Their remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for examination and autopsy.

The Virginia State Police investigation to the cause of the crash is ongoing. The NTSB and FAA are conducting their own investigations.
