‘The Young and the Restless’ celebrates landmark episode

LOS ANGELES (WTVR) - One of the last reaming daytime soap operas celebrated a big milestone Thursday.

"The Young and the Restless," which airs at 12:30 p.m. on CBS 6, celebrated its 10,000th episode on Sept. 27.

The show, which has been number one for more than 23 years, will also celebrate its 40th anniversary next March.

In Thursday's show, surprises await the characters as they gather for the funeral of the presumed dead billionaire Victor Newman, played by Eric Braeden. Newman has been 

Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, Sony Pictures Television, gave credit to the show's cast and crew, as well as the thousands of devoted fans, for the show's success.

“We honor all of the producers, writers, actors and crew who have contributed to this amazing achievement,” said Kent.

"The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" are two of the four remaining daytime dramas on network television. "General Hospital" airs on ABC and "Days of Our Lives" airs on NBC.

ABC axed "All My Children" in 2011 and "One Life to Live" in 2012. The shows were replaced by "The Chew," a lifestyle show focused on cooking and "The Revolution," which was canceled not long after it started.

Proctor and Gamble also pulled the plug on their landmark CBS serial "As The World Turns" in 2010. "Guiding Light," the Guinness Book of World Records' longest running drama in television history and another of the laundry detergent giant's serials, was also canceled in 2009.
