RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond police are conducting a death investigation, after the discovery of a body on the city’s Southside.

Investigators confirm that human remains were found Thursday afternoon at Ancarrow’s Landing. That’s located behind a water treatment plant across the James River from Rockett’s Landing.

Richmond police’s Gene Lepley said a city worker found the man’s body around 4 p.m. on the slave trail, not far from the parking lot.

CBS 6 has been told by Richmond Police sources that the body was found fully clothed and was decomposing.

Additionally, Chesterfield police are also on the scene to determine if the body is connected to a missing person’s case they have been investigating.

The latest missing person’s case in Chesterfield is the abduction of Paresh Patel.  Patel was kidnapped Sunday morning as he opened the Raceway gas station he owned at the 5600 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy.

At this time, Richmond Police say this death investigation cannot be tied to Patel’s case.

The medical examiner is now determining a cause of death and investigators are working to identify the victim.  If you have any information on this death investigation, you are urged to contact the Richmond Police Department at 780-1000.
