RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Governor Mitt Romney made a pit stop at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday.

According to a pool report, Romney landed at Richmond International Airport at 4:55 p.m. and arrived at the raceway around 5:45 p.m. and was greeted by thousands of people lining up in the streets, waving and shooting videos and pictures of him.

After he arrived, he spent more than an hour taking pictures and signing a few photos for fans.  He also handed out a few hot dogs along with George Allen, despite the heavy rain.

Romney and Allen reportedly spoke to NASCAR driver Jeff Burton in front of a Romney-Ryan ’12 vehicle.  Romney also signed the car that was on display and then headed to the NASCAR mobile headquarters.

He also met NASCAR president Mike Helton and talked to him for a few minutes before leaving Richmond International Raceway at 7:37 p.m.

Romney’s plane took off from Richmond International Airport around 8 p.m.
