HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The teenager shot in the head during a high school house party early Sunday morning in Henrico County is alert and talking, according to Henrico Police Lt. Rick Schurz.

Due to the age of the victim, CBS 6 is waiting for police or her family to release her name before we publish the name given to us by friends and witnesses.

Lt. Schurz said the girl was shot while driving away from the home along the 11000 block of Hilbingdon Road in Henrico’s West End.

He told CBS 6 reporter Catie Beck that the bullet smashed through the back windshield of the victim's car before it hit her in the head.

He said there was a passenger in her car at the time and that investigators found "numerous" shell casings outside the home.

When police arrived at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, the shooting suspects had left the area, Lt. Schurz said. He added officers were able to interview some of the people who witnessed the shooting but investigators were still looking for other witnesses.

Lt. Schurz said, police had not identified a shooting suspect.

The weekend shooting came during a Saturday night house party.

A teenager who said he attended the party told CBS 6 a group of teenagers showed up to the house and started to steal items, like iPhones, from other party-goers.

“They were giving high fives and then all of the sudden, iPhones were gone and it was crazy," he said. "All of the beer was out of the room.”

Lt. Schurz did not confirm that witness account, but did say "multiple persons" were not allowed into the party. The witness told CBS 6 the shootings happened after the party guests were asked to leave.
