(CNN) – Sex sells — an eternal truth that helped book seller Barnes & Noble narrow its quarterly loss due partly to demand for E.L. James’ racy book trilogy, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” U.S. stocks ended lower Tuesday, after the S&P 500 briefly rose above its highest closing level in four years.
Barnes & Noble reported a loss of 78 cents a share — 20 cents better than analysts had expected. The bookseller credited sales of the “50 Shades of Grey” trilogy for boosting its bottom line.
