HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – It was news that rocked a small Virginia community. A family of three shot to death and the killer never found.

It was ten years ago this month that police found the bodies of Michael and Mary Short in their Henry County home. Both had been shot in the head. Weeks later, investigators found the body of the couple's daughter Jennifer Short in a creek in North Carolina. No one was ever charged in the murders.

Since the crimes, family friends have started the Jennifer Short Memorial Bike Ride. Jennifer attended Bassett High School. The money raised during the memorial bike ride is put in a scholarship fund, and given to the student with the highest GPA that comes back into the area and become a teacher.

The next ride will take place Sunday, August 12th in Henry County. It will start at the parking lot of Super Country 99.9 WZBB on Route 220 near Oak Level.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the ride starts at 1 p.m.

Cars and motorcycles can ride. The trip is 35 miles long beginning near the home where Michael and Mary were found dead and ending near the location police found Jennifer's body.
