RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - Some students at Virginia Commonwealth University are dealing with heartbreak this summer. VCU student Caitlin Kremp, 18, died this week after she fell 200 feet from a ledge while hiking in Colorado.

“She`s going to be missed more than I can say. I don`t know what I am going to do without her,” said friend Alex Little.

Little told  CBS 6, Kremp fell when she ventured out on her own to see the sunrise. Rescue crews found her body after friends on the hiking trip set off a GPS alert.

“She loved being independent. She loved doing her own thing,” said Little.

Kremp was in Colorado on a four-day trip with other VCU students as part of the school's outdoor adventure program.

“She was at peace when she was with nature, no doubt,” said another  friend.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time," VCU Provost and Vice-President for academic affairs said in an emailed statement.

Kremps friends said her spirit will live on through those she touched.

“Caitlin had the most passion and love for living and just doing what she loved. She would learn something online and tell you about it,“ a friend said.
