VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) – Virginia Beach police say they are searching for two suspects who are accused of stealing over 200 pounds of film from an area hospital.

Authorities say the two unknown suspects entered the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on First Colonial Road around 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 1 in an attempt to get x-ray film. They were denied by security staff because they did not have proper ID. Police say the suspects later re-entered the hospital and approached an employee who was working in radiology.

They told the employee that they needed to pick up x-ray films and they were then directed to the film room. Police say the two stole over 200 pounds of film from the hospital.

Investigators say this is actually a growing problem nationwide and in Canada.  They say suspects who steal the film extract the silver and then it is sold.

Police say the suspects, who are described as a Hispanic male and a white male with some knowledge of hospitals, were driving an older-model, yellow Penske moving truck.
