GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -Two drivers were charged following two separate accidents that closed Interstate 64 east near Route 288.

Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar said around 8:15 a.m. Monday a Ford Taurus struck a Chrysler PT Cruiser while changing lanes. Police charged the driver of the Taurus with making an unsafe lane change.

When cars behind that crash stopped, the driver of a Saturn Coupe could not stop in time. Her car hit the car in front of it, which then hit the Mercury Mariner in front of it, Molnar said.

The impact pushed the Mariner into the right travel lane where it was hit by a tractor trailer.

Police charged the Saturn driver with following too close, Molnar said.

Three people suffered minor injuries in the accidents.

The accidents closed all lanes on Interstate 64 east near Route 288 along the Henrico County – Goochland County line. All lanes reopened by 10:00 a.m.
