July jobless report released

Posted

Good news for the economy. U.S. employers added 163,000 jobs in July. That’s 63,000 more than expected. It’s the biggest hiring wave since February.

But the unemployment rate still went up. That’s because a government survey found more people who have been out of work for awhile are once again looking for work.

All of those who did find a job were hired by companies in the private sector.

Those who were hired in July were also more likely to be hired for seasonal work. Some business owners say the skittish economy is making them hesitant to hire full-time workers.
