DANVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – The City of Danville Fire Department responded to a wild land fire at 3 p.m. on Sunday.  The department’s tanker truck and brush truck were also on scene.

Battalion Chief Dallas R. Sweeny says that volunteers River Bend and Bachelors Hall Departments provided large tanks filled with water supplies to put out the fire.

Officials say the Danville Life Saving Crew was also on scene providing water for the firefighters.  We’re told that one firefighter was treated at the scene for exhaustion and another pulled a muscle.

22 firefighters and numerous volunteers were on scene for more than four hours.

According to the Danville Fire Department, the fire was caused by a hot shredded tire from a truck that rubbed against the grass and caused friction along the roadway.

The fire department determined the cause of the fire as an accident.
