Another round of severe storms with strong winds hit central and southern Virginia on Friday.  While a handful of reports came in from east of Interstate 95, the majority of the damage happened in the western half of the state.

Areas of damage were common in Amherst, Charlotte, Halifax, Nelson & Pittsylvania counties.   All damage was from the strong “straight-line winds”, and no tornadoes occurred.  Wind speeds in some of the storms exceeded 70 mph.

A more detailed account of severe weather from the past 72 hours can be found here from the National Weather Service.
