(CNN) – Fred Willard promised to share his side of the story on his arrest, and he gave a bit of it on Thursday’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

Willard called his brief time in police custody on suspicion of engaging in a lewd act in an adult movie theater “embarrassing,” but a matter that he was working through.

“It’s embarrassing as hell but let me say this: Nothing happened,” Willard told Fallon of the July 18 incident. “I did nothing wrong. Everything’s being sorted out as we speak.”

He then went on to give his description of what happened on that fateful night.

“My summary of the whole evening was: it’s an interesting theater, a boring movie and a great place to nap,” said the “Best in Show” star, adding, “It’s the last time I’m going to listen to my wife when she says, ‘Why don’t you go out and see a movie?'”

“The whole adult theater thing – I thought they were gone,” he added about his time in the movie house. “And I see this one, it has such a Polynesian, exotic look to it. I said, ‘Maybe there’s hula dancers in here. Maybe there’s Mai Tais.’ I went in, and I realized I was the only one awake and sober and conscious … It was like a trip down ‘Alice in Wonderland’ – down the rabbit hole,” he explained.

Willard said the past week has been “embarrassing” and “painful,” but he’s been trying to brush the whole episode under the rug and just “laugh it off.”

Fallon did his best on Thursday to help Willard do just that, jokingly asking the title of the film he was watching: “Was it ‘The Firm’? Was it ‘Free Willy?'” Willard denied both of those names, prompting Fallon to inquire, “Was it ‘Anaconda?'”

Nope, Willard said. “Sadly, it was ‘Get Shorty.'”
