RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The wife of a Family Dollar store clerk that was shot and killed in an apparent robbery, is remembering her husband as police hunt for three suspects.

Richmond police released surveillance video that showed three suspects loitering outside of the Jeff Davis Highway store Tuesday night.

Police said around 10:30 p.m., 51-year-old Milton Jackson had just wrapped up a training shift at the Southside store. As he walked outside and approached his car, one of the three suspects demanded money and then shot him to death.

Jackson was pronounced dead at VCU Medical Center about a half hour later.

Michelle Jackson said her husband normally did not work so late, but that he was training for closing duties at the store. She said she knew something was wrong when she woke up around 11:15 p.m. and her husband was not home.

The couple, whom had recently moved to Virginia, relocated to the Richmond-area because of Michelle's job. Her husband followed and applied for a manager position at the discount chain.

Jackson said she wants the shooter to turn himself in. She said she thinks her husband would have given the robbers their car – or what little money he had. She said she is trying to come to grips with why her husband was shot and killed.

"My true response is that I'm a Christian, so I have to forgive… I believe things happen for a reason, but the reason this happened, I'll never understand," Jackson said, choking back tears.
