RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The best hospital in the Virginia is located in our area.

VCU Medical Center was ranked the number one hospital in the state by U.S News and World Report, mainly because of its nephrology, pulmonology, orthopedic surgery and urology programs.

“I think it just underscores the excellence of care that the hospital delivers. That’s the real message we should be getting out there,” says Dr. Todd Gehr, the Vice-Chair of Internal Medicine at VCU Medical Center. Gehr is also a professor in the nephrology department, which specializes in kidney problems.

The report also said fewer than 150 hospitals were ranked nationally in just one category.

VCU ranked in the top 50 nationally in four categories.
