(KCBS) – An animal care center in California is taking care of a very special kitten that is lucky to be alive.

The 3-month old male kitten survived a 2,700-mile journey from Shanghai, China to Los Angeles without food or water.

KCBS-TV reported that the orange and white kitten was found in a freight container that arrived at a business in Compton Wednesday.

The kitten was likely trapped inside the container for at least two weeks without food or water.

The Compton business owner called in animal control to pick up the cat.

Animal control workers said the kitten ate "a good meal" Wednesday and "slept soundly."  The kitten, who was clinging to life just 24 hours ago, woke up Thursday morning alert and responsive.

Workers named the kitten "Ni Hao," which means "hello" in Chinese.
