RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Flood Advisory was issued early this morning for the Richmond metro area because of a long heavy thunderstorm (non-severe) that developed right over Richmond around 3 a.m., and then dumped as much as three inches of rainfall in just a couple of hours. Storm motion was very slow to the east at a mere 10 to 15 mph. That Flood Advisory was allowed to expire at 6 a.m. as the heaviest rainfall moved east of the Metro and drainage is now occurring. Some parts of the Metro received about three inches of rainfall in just a few hours. Richmond International Airport recorded 1.36 inches from the overnight/early morning storm, upping our rainfall Monday through Tuesday to 1.82 inches. The year-to-date tally now stands at 18.40 inches for 2012 at RIC.
