As fireworks light the sky, thousands still in the dark

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Thousands of people remain without electricity as crews work to restore power to homes and businesses across Central Virginia following last Friday's damaging storms. [Read more storm coverage]

Dominion Virginia Power reported around 7,000 customers in Central Virginia remained without power early Wednesday afternoon. If you have a power outage and have not contacted Dominion, they ask that you call 1-866-DOM-HELP as soon as possible.

The Rappahannock Electric Cooperative said this week that it may not have power turned back on to all its customers until the weekend. As of Wednesday at noon the REC reported less than 1,200 customers without power. The majority of those customers live in Rappahannock County and Culpeper County. REC said nearly all service has been restored east of Interstate 95. REC said there are still 400 damage locations that need to be fixed and that repairs could take "several days."To report a power outage, please call 1-800-552-3904 or visit www.myrec.coop and report your outage online.

Southside Electric Cooperative reported Wednesday that 554 customers remained without power. Nearly half of the co-op's outages were reported in Prince Edward County.
