HENRICO, Va. (WTVR) Henrico County has officially declared a local emergency, along with 35 other counties in the Commonwealth.

The county manager declared a state of emergency for the county at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, according to Anna McRay, the Deputy Coordinator of Emergency Management, Division of Fire.

On Saturday Gov. Bob McDonnell declared a state of emergency for the state of Va., which allowed him to call in the National Guard and access certain state resources.

McRay explained that the local declaration allows the county to bring in extra people and allows them to more easily get equipment, supplies and staff to help in the situation.  It also allows the county to work more closely with the state.  McRay said that there is no major situation or looming danger going on except restoration of power.
