PALM CITY, Fla. (WPBF) – A Florida woman, stung by more than 100 bees, survived when the swarm attacked, but her beloved dogs weren’t so lucky.
Julie Lumley took her dogs, Shadow and Zoe, out for a walk Monday morning in their Palm City, Florida neighborhood. But what she did not know was a swarm of what is believed to be Africanized bees was in the tree.
“I felt one hit my arm, just one. And then I brushed it down. Then all of a sudden they were just on top of us,” said Julie Lumley.””They [the dogs] got scared and wrapped their leashes around my leg and I couldn’t go nowhere cause they had me bound up. I was trying to get the bees off me working trying to get the dogs loose. Finally I got
shadow loose and he ran and dropped down by the tree.”
Shadow died in the grass. Zoe was taken to an animal hospital where she too died.
"Not going to replace them. But I'm so damn lonesome,"said Julie's husband Jim Lumley.
