RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--We know the Washington Redskins are headed to Richmond in 2013, but where will they train?

Today CBS 6 spoke with sources both inside city hall and Virginia Commonwealth University Athletics Department who have seen a list of potential sites for the  Redskins’ training field.

Those sites will be considered by the 18 advisers recently appointed by Mayor Dwight Jones.

City officials said that the site must be within Richmond City limits and have at least 10 acres of land space available to support the team. Ideally, organizers would like to find a location with two practice fields side by side.

Some locations were predictable and others were a bit off the beaten path.

CBS 6 was told that the City Stadium remains near the top of the list, especially since the area is already funded in the city budget for significant improvements. The Sports Backers complex on Boulevard is also on the list.

A surprise choice on the list were the side-by-side soccer fields on Brook Road, owned by the Union Presbyterian Seminary. Not too far from that location are several wide open fields inside Bryan Park.

The fields at Virginia Union University are also being reviewed for the Redskins, as well as the University of Richmond. However, we’re told Univ. of Richmond is an unlikely choice due to traffic concerns in the area.

CBS 6 also learned that some undeveloped property near Stony Point Shopping Center could be a potential practice spot. There is also a location behind the Target off of Forest Hill Avenue.

Committee members have also mentioned that there will likely be some travel to observe other professional team’s training programs. The Chicago Bears were mentioned as a possible team to visit.
