CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)–The Hummus consumer trend is helping create jobs here in Central Virginia.

Today Governor Bob McDonnell announced the Sabra Dipping Company, that makes the popular Sabra hummus, is expanding its Chesterfield County Plant.

Sabra, which has operated out of a 49-acre campus since 2010, has become a household name and now plans on bringing home some extra cash to the state.

The expansion is expected to create 90 new jobs and will increase production capacity by 50 percent.

The company will also establish a Center of Excellence research and development facility.

All the investments will total $28 million dollars. The company said in a press release that they intend to develop agricultural initiatives with local universities, and increase the use of local resources.

Construction on the research and development center will begin the second quarter of 2012.
