COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) – Colonial Heights Deputy Fire Marshal J. E. Boisseau wanted to remind everyone that it is against the law in Colonial Heights for anyone to possess, use or light most fireworks. People caught breaking the city’s code face jail time and a fine of up to $2,500.

Fireworks that are allowed under city code include:

  • sparkler
  • fountains
  • Pharaoh’s serpents
  • caps for pistols
  • pinwheels commonly known as whirligigs or spinning jennies

Boisseau  said you can tell if the fireworks is legal by reading the manufacture’s warning label.  Labels that read "explosive, shoots falling balls, rocket with report, etc." are illegal.
