Richmond (WTVR)--This was the kickoff event to a community effort to fight childhood obesity, a growing epidemic.
Three hundred students from across central Virginia participated in today's Movin’ Mania at the Science Museum.
Movin’ Mania is a collaboration of different community organizations designed to provide education, awareness, and create healthy habits in young people in Virginia.
“As a mission-driven health system, it is our responsibility to build healthy communities, and that starts with our children,” said Peter J. Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Virginia Health System, in a release.
The program hopes to reach at least 100,000 kids and their families in the Richmond area, which was also recently named the second fattest city in the country by Gallup-Healthways.
