Richmond (WTVR) — Highs Sunday afternoon pushed past 90° in many areas. The high at Richmond International Airport hit 92°, making it the hottest day of the year so far. Prior to Sunday, a high of 90° occurred on three occasions, but the thermometer had not passed 90° this year.
An increase in clouds across southern and southwestern Virginia limited heating slightly, and highs never broke out of the upper 80s.
More clouds on Monday will keep many areas from hitting 90°, and the rest of the week will have highs in the low to mid 80s.
Some of the extended computer models are showing signs of a hotter trend for the second half of June.
