A new study published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine examined racial differences and implications for the prevention of obesity.

Researchers studied the exercise levels and food intakes of more than 1,100 twelve-year-old girls.

The results of the study suggest that exercise does not have the same benefits in young African-American girls as it does for white girls.

Researchers propose that genetics and exposure to exercise are the reasons why black girls are more likely to be obese by the age of 14.
