RICHMOND, VA. (WTVR)–Need help using public transportation to get around Richmond?

GRTC has created a new online tool to help you find a bus route near your home.

The new online trip planner, called Google Transit, works like this.

You go to their website and enter your location, your destination, and the time and date of your trip.

The trip planner uses Google maps to show you three different routes and tells you the amount of time and the number of bus transfers that will get you there.

Google Maps can provide walking directions, so riders can find out exactly how to get to the nearest bus stop and how to get to their destination once they leave the bus.

This program can generate an output that is accessible for compatible screen readers for vision impaired users.

Trip Planning is also available on “smart” mobile phones, making the information available at people’s fingertips where ever they are. It can help get them out of a bind if they don’t know which routes service a particular area or what the timetables are.
