Virginia War Memorial event honors fallen heroes

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - As millions across the country paid tribute to those who have fought and died in war, a ceremony was held Monday morning to honor Virginia's fallen war heroes.

More than  2,000 people attended the 10 a.m. event at the Virginia War Memorial.

Gov. Bob McDonnell addresses the crowd and also honored seven Virginia law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

The names of 40 Virginia service men and women, who died fighting in the War on Terror, were added to the Wall of Honor at the Virginia War Memorial.

One man told CBS 6 News' Jeritta Patterson that the turnout means many people have not forgotten what our nation is all about: our men and women that served their country and paid the ultimate price.

Charles Adams, talked about his cousin and good friend, who was killed in 2004. Clarenne Adams III, a former Varina High School football star, died on his birthday.

Adams' legacy, along with 262 other Virginia service members who died serving their country are displayed on a Wall of Honor. 

The Wall of Honor will be on display at the Virginia War Memorial through mid-June.
