RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond Police are investigating a shooting near the Virginia Commonwealth University's Monroe Park campus that left one person wounded.

Around midnight shots were fired at the New York Fried Chicken, Pizza, and Subs near the intersection of Belvidere and Broad Street in the city, shooting out some of the windows of the business.

Police said two people are in custody as persons of interest.

VCU sent out an alert soon after the incident instructing students to avoid the area, move indoors or stay inside. One of the school's dormitories is across the street from the restaurant and students also live in nearby apartments.

The restaurant has seen its share of violence over the last four years.

In fact, a man was shot three times at the restaurant's parking lot in the early morning hours of Halloween 2008.

Then in February of 2009, a man was shot in the leg inside the restaurant. The next month, police arrested two men after shots were fired outside.

Just after the February shooting, health inspectors closed the restaurant, citing for health violations. Also, they said the owner had no business license and had not paid meals taxes for almost two years.

The business reopened after cleaning things up and paying fines.

There has been no word yet on the victim's injuries or a possible motive for the incident.
