A scorching Indy 500

A heat advisory has been in effect for much of the midwest over the weekend, including the Indianapolis area.

It had the potential to be the hottest Indy 500 on record, with forecast temperatures in the low and mid 90s.  The hottest race so far in Indy 500 history is 92° from 1937.

However, the actual high for Indianapolis Sunday reached 91°, tying for the second hottest race on record.  It was also the first race with a high of 90° or hotter since 1978.

The stats for the race are taken from the official station in Indianapolis.  Temperatures on the actual track were much hotter.
