WILLIAMSBURG, Va (WTVR) - The man who tried to kill president Ronald Reagan wants more free time to visit his parents in Virginia, but some neighbors are less than thrilled at the prospect.

He currently visits his mother for a 10-day stretch, a dozen times a year. In November, Hinckley requested a federal judge for more free time. Hearings wrapped up in February and a judge has yet to rule.

CNN affiliate in WAVY shot this video of John Hinckley, Jr. walking around in Williamsburg and showed it to people that live in the area. Their mixed reactions can be seen in the video above.

Hinckley shot Reagan outside a Washington hotel in 1981. A jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity.  When Hinckley's not in Williamsburg he's kept at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington.
