Most people aren’t going to pick up a hitchhiker–unless it was filmmaker John Waters, and if they could recognize him.
Well, a band out of Brooklyn, New York, known to hitchhike and pick up hitchhikers definitely recognized the filmmaker.
They picked him up hitchhiking in Ohio.
Just picked up John Waters hitchhiking in the middle of Ohio.. No joke. Waters in the van.

People on twitter had their doubts.
The band is traveling on a tour promoting their new album ‘A Different Ship.’
Talk about magic, err, at least coincidence. How funny that the band, who enjoys picking up hitchhikers would cross paths with John Waters, who loves hitchhiking?!
According to the tour schedule it looks like the band has a show tonight in Bloomington, Indiana.
Apparently John Waters bought them lunch. They plan on dropping off Mr. Waters, as they call him, in Indianapolis.
Mr. Waters is headed across the US-- I think we're dropping him in Indianapolis if u want to grab him next. Keep ur eyes peeled on the I-70!

If you’re lucky enough to spot the famous filmmaker–he was coming from Baltimore–then it sounds like you will certainly be in for company. And everyone loves–needs–good company. They even said he brings along some tunes to play.
What an utter gentleman, as natural and observant of people as one might imagine. A total joy, full of stories. Thanks JW, be safe out there

You can find the band here on Facebook. They will be playing at this summer’s outrageous Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee.
So tell us in the comments who you would hope to find hitchhiking across the country? And what is your favorite Waters film?
