Wine festival raises money to restore historic home

PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – A wine festival in Petersburg Saturday raised money for the restoration of a historic house.

The house is called Battersea and was built in 1774. Organizers said there are few other properties like it in the country.

“This is an Anglo-Palladian five-part home. It is one of five remaining in the country, restored and intact in the country,” said Tempy Barbru.

So far, some of the foundation of the home has been restored, as well as some windows. But there is still more work needs to be done.

Eleven wineries took part in the event, which also featured music and dance.

This is Petersburg’s second annual wine festival.
