CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The  ramp from Route 288 southbound to I-95 and the ramp from northbound Route 1 to Route 28 are expected to be closed for five to six hours after police said distracted truck driver ran off the road causing his truck to overturn in Chesterfield County, according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar.

Police charged truck driver Burton M. Hopson, 62, of Hampton, with reckless driving. Molnar would not say what distracted Hopson when he crashed around 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police said the truck was carrying 45,000 pounds of potatoes from Ohio in Hendersonville, N.C. Molnar said the highway ramp will remain open through the morning rush hour, then close later Thursday morning so crews could upright the truck and clean up whatever mess remained.

The truck driver was wearing his seat-belt and was not injured in the accident, according to Sgt. Molnar.
