LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The Louisa County Sherriff’s Office said Thursday that a 55-year-old man died earlier this week after he jumped from a bridge.

Officials said deputies were called Tuesday to assist rescue personnel after the man jumped from the canal bridge on Moody Town Road, over Lake Anna.

However, Lake Anna Rescue and other emergency crews were not able to revive the man who had been under water for several minutes.

Forensics Investigator, Detective Mark Stanton, said the incident started after the 55-year-old and a 28-year-old from Spotsylvania County were drinking and driving.

In fact, Stanton said the pair had been drinking and driving for four hours before the 55-year-old  stopped the vehicle around 5 p.m.

Stanton said the pair walked to the center of the bridge, right past two signs stating “No Jumping or Fishing From Bridge”.
