RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Hundreds of people stepped into spring Saturday for a good cause.

It was the 4th annual "Festival of Feet" in Bowling Green.

It's a memorial 5k and 10k in memory of Virginia State Police First Sgt. Mark Alan Haygood.

Haygood, 44, died in May 2008 from brain cancer.  He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Sergeant Michael Jenkins told the runners that Sgt. Haygood was the epitome of a state trooper.  "He represented the department well. When you thought of a state trooper, that's what you thought of. He was the epitome of physical fitness and everything the department is looking for."

Every year since Haygood's passing, the "Festival of Feet" has been held to raise money for the American Cancer Society and the Virginia State Police Association's Emergency Relief Fund.
