(WTVR) - Just as Arizona's Immigration laws are taking the spotlight in the Supreme Court, a Virginia professor speaks on how these issues can affect Virginians.

Professor Debra Rodman with Randolph Macon is an expert on immigration issues.

Today at the Supreme Court, justices are deciding whether Arizona's immigration law goes too far.

The law makes it a crime for an undocumented immigrant to be in Arizona without carrying registration documents.

The Justice Department contends the Federal government alone has the right to control immigration.

Arizona says it's not an immigration control policy but instead an attempt to reduce crime.

A ruling could come in late June.

The outcome of the Arizona appeal could set an important precedent on similar laws pending across the country.
