RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The University of Minnesota announced the hiring of VCU athletic director Norwood Teague during an afternoon press conference.
Last night CBS 6 reported Teague was named as sole finalist for the Minnesota AD's job. Teague would succeeded Joel Maturi who held the Minnesota athletic director's job for 10 years. Maturi is retiring June 30th.
Teague arrived at VCU in 2006.
During his time in Richmond, Teague hired two head men's basketball coaches.
Both Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart led the Rams to NCAA appearances with Smart taking his team all the way to the Final Four in 2011.
This past season VCU won a school record 29 games and set a new school record by averaging 7,622 fans per home game.
