CHESTERFIELD COUNTY (WTVR) - Chesterfield Police have made an arrest in Sunday's fatal shooting of 17-year-old Manchester High School student Tre Antonio Walton.

Police have taken 19-year-old Brandon Lamar Fordham into custody. He's been charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers discovered Walton's body in the breezeway of the Genito Glen Apartments along the 4000 block of Hailey Crescent Drive around 10:20 p.m. Sunday night. He was taken to Chippenham Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a press release from the Chesterfield Police Department.

Police tell CBS 6 this was not a random shooting, but the result of a dispute between two people who knew each other

Genito Glen Justin Murphy resident told CBS 6 one of his friends was approached by a man who asked the friend to tell Walton to come down and see him.

"He came downstairs and the guy was waiting in the back of the breezeway, and he shot him four times," Murphy said. "My friend ran out the front of the breezeway to get away from him."

Murphy said he knew Walton as well, and said he was a nice person.

"Every time I saw him he had a smile on his face," Murphy added. "I don't think he ever had any problems with anyone. I really hope that they find the person that did this, because [Wilton] was a very loyal, good guy. He didn't deserve this."

The manager at Genito Glen Apartments says they've never had anything like this happen before, and that it's put neighbors on edge. She says they plan to hire security personnel after the incident.

The vigil for Tre Antonio Walton will be held at 7 p.m. at the Manchester High School.
