CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) – Chesterfield police say the man they found dead inside an apartment Saturday had been shot to death. Family members interviewed by CBS 6 are identifying the victim of the shooting as 24-year-old Joe Roane, although Chesterfield Police have not yet released the name.

The alleged victim, Joe Roane, according to family members, did not live at the place where he was found dead.

Police said they received a call around 12:15 Saturday afternoon to check the welfare of a man inside the Waterside Apartments in the 6400 block of Wooded Glen Court. That’s when they found the body. No other persons were found in the apartment.

Lt. Randy Horowitz of the Chesterfield Criminal Investigations Division says Phillip B. Shaw, a resident of the apartment, was later located by police and was taken into custody without incident.

Horowitz says police obtained and served warrants charging Shaw with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Shaw is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail without bond pending his appearance in Chesterfield County General District Court on April 23, 2012, at 10:30 a.m.

Horowitz says police have also arrested Dustin R. Beaston, of the 5600 block of Benika Drive, in connection with this incident. He has been charged with accessory after the fact.

We will have more on this story as it continues to develop.
