Navy to meet with jet crash victims in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) - Navy officials will hold a meeting in Virginia Beach  Thursday to update the people affected by a Navy jet that crashed into an apartment complex earlier this month.

An F/A 18D Navy jet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 crashed into an apartment building around noon on April 6 in the 900 block of Birdneck Road near Naval Air Station Oceana. [BONUS: Aerial video from scene of jet crash scene]

The meeting will update the status of compensation and assistance available to victims displaced from the Mayfair Mews Apartments by the crash.

It is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Training Academy located on Integrity Way and is only open to people who live in the apartments.

The Navy has been providing money for food, clothing and lodging for the people who live at Mayfair Mews. Additionally, the Navy has been helping those displaced to find new homes.
