Henrico County, Va. (WTVR) – A water main break has River Road down to a single lane between Twin Lake Lane and Roslyn Hills Drive. The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities said it hoped to have the break repaired by this afternoon.  The county said 140 customers had water service interuptsions due to the break.

This is the third time within a month, a water main break has disrupted Henrico County customers and drivers.  In addition to today’s break, the same situation happened on March 13, 2011 off Quioccasin Road and again on March 22, 2011 off Gayton Road.

Melvin Slough with Henrico County Public Utilities says unlike the two breaks in March, the incident off River Road happened when a contractor hit a pipe while digging.

“Everybody that I’ve talked to on site has been understanding,” said Slough.  “We are providing water, bottled water, for them (residents) if they are in need.  But they have been understanding.”

Slough said crew members have been working since 2 a.m. to repair the break, and it’s unclear how long it will take to fix the problem.

Today is also the day Henrico County Public crew members are beginning its 10-year program to flush 1,570 miles of water lines.  The project is starting out near Darbytown and Williamsburg Roads.
