A $500 check from Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign, meant to pay a fee associated with appearing on the state’s primary ballot, bounced, a Utah election official confirmed Wednesday.
Gingrich’s campaign said they would send a new check in order to appear on the ballot in Utah’s June 26 primary.
According to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, which was confirmed by Utah Director of Elections Mark Thomas, an agent for Gingrich’s campaign filed paperwork along with the check in March.
The state was later notified by the bank that Gingrich’s check bounced.
The Tribune report noted that Thomas’ office attempted to contact Gingrich’s campaign using the phone number and email listed on the filing application, but had not received a response.
