NEW ORLEANS (WDSU) –  Police outside New Orleans, Louisiana said a woman accused of shoplifting left a baby at a mall during her getaway from mall security.

Police said the woman was caught shoplifting at the Esplanade Mall in Kenner Saturday night, When confronted by mall security, police said the woman pulled out a stun gun and used it on the security guard. Police said she then ran through the mall, pushing the stroller with the baby inside.

Once she reached the parking lot, police said the woman jumped into her car and ditched the baby.

The child's mother has come forward, but is not cooperating with the investigation. For that reason, the baby is in the care of protective custody.

Police said the babysitter would have faced a misdemeanor shoplifting charge, but now she's facing several felony charges including child endangerment and aggravated battery.
