Woman talks about rescuing folks after jet crashes

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTVR) - One woman descried  what happened when she saw a Navy jet crash Friday in Virginia Beach.

But it's what Rudy Gordy did after the crash, that may have helped save lives.

Gordy said she was sitting outside when she heard the jet's engine pop. It was like a skittering, she said, where it was popping and then it would stop.

Next, Gordy said she saw the plane go down.

Gordy said she saw the first pilot eject backwards out of the jet, while the other shot straight up.

As soon as she saw the pilots eject, she and some other folks ran across the street to help. She managed to get four people out of the apartment building.

By that time, the jet had exploded.

"There were a lot of scared little old ladies running with their cats," she said. "And we just couldn't go back in for them."
