Martin’s warns of Odwalla protein drink recall

CARLISLE, Pa. (WTVR) – Martin’s grocery stores announced a recall Friday after Odwalla, Inc., said it is pulling the company’s Chocolate Protein Monster beverage from store shelves.

The chain said some consumers who are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts have reported severe allergic reactions after drinking the beverage.

The affected product has a use by date prior to and including 23 MAY 2012 and has the following bar code:  Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster, 12 oz., UPC 1405413509.

Customers who have purchased the drink should toss out any unused portions or bring their purchase receipt to Martin’s for a full refund.

Officials said symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
