CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) --Some parents of Thomas Dale High School students are upset, claiming that they were left in the dark about a potentially dangerous situation at the school Friday.

"It's very scary, it's scary not to know," said parent Angela Jenkins.

Chesterfield Police investigated a possible threat made against the school by a fifteen-year-old student.

They found no evidence at the school but searched the teenager’s home to find several hidden handguns and ammunition. The juvenile was arrested and charged for having firearms

"We didn't need details just to know that something had happened and that they had been working on it," said Jenkins.

"I think the police handled our children's safety well but as for the school goes in letting us know...it's a concern," said Parent Lynn Oriente.

School officials continue to say that while student safety is a primary concern, because police determined there was no verified threat at the school, there was no reason to send word to parents.

But some parents believe that whether or not the threat was real, if the school calls police perhaps parents should also be called.

"I would certainly appreciate that much more,” said Oriente
